State of the WNBA
My side about the WNBA Going back to the latest article about the WNBA having its own name(labeled as a woman's sport) and having problems. First off I think that's what we wanted not problems but a chance to play. All these years we wanted a chance for us women to have the opportunity to play basketball and have An equal rights as the men do. Now we do and all you hear is bickering back and forth about the name and the style of play. OK.....maybe we don't play a high scoring game as the men or maybe we don't have a higher excitement level for some people. But what about us teens and little girls who get really excited about seeing women play a now know that we have a chance to play pro ball just like the men do now. But I know personally that I have a high exciment level for every game I go to see and I have season tickets for the Detroit Shock. I may not see as many fans as the NBA has but we are getting the fans slowly and more gradually. Also look at Houston Comets, they have sell out crowds almost every game.....also they have the title for the last 3 years. So I am saying you can't just go out and say that the WNBA isn't working and isn't creating as much of an attendance. We may not have it now but we are working at it and getting more fans every year. And I am not saying we don't have problems but so does the NBA, so does every pro sport. But I am 15 yrs. and I love to go watch the women play their heart out on the court and I get the excitement of seeing them drive to the hole every now and then and pulling up for the 3 and stealing the basketball and everything else. I think the WNBA is one of the best things that happened I get to go see 16 games of my favorite team and see my idols the women I look up to like Nancy Lieberman-Cline, Wendy Palmer, Jennifer Azzi, Dominique Canty, Tamicha Jackson, Chamique Holdsclaw and many others. And I know I am not the only one who feels like this. So just stop criticizing the WNBA and give it a chance to adapt and come together. Its only the 4th season so when we get to like, I don't know 50+ seasons or however many the NBA is at and we still have problems fine say what you want, but not now because we are still developing and doing pretty good for the Time being.
